What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. We aim to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep forearm/elbow pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia (skin). Direct deep pressure is used to release chronic tension created from the wear & tear of sports, work, and postural imbalances. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better within a day or two. Techniques involved in Treatment include myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, cross fiber friction, deep tissue, and cyriax. Why get a Deep Tissue Massage? It is beneficial to your health. Muscles get stressed; they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. This can impair or effect your performance whether it's athletics, or your Job. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Trigger points, adhesions, and scar tissue can be released with Deep Tissue Massage. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body. Deep Tissue is both corrective and therapeutic. How much pressure should you take? The most you can take as long as you can relax with proper breathing techniques.

Sports Massage

Great for pre/post event. A faster paced massage great for pre/post event. It is usually lighter than deep tissue yet firmer than say a swedish massage. Usually it is a full body massage because you're not focusing in one particular area. Sports typically isn't specifiic, it is very general and includes the whole body. A good sports massage can be tailored to the sport in which you participate in.
